Volunteering at PyCon Greece 2026

PyCon Greece is a community-driven event, and much of what makes it happen is thanks to people who are willing to give their time and energy. To help us make the conference run smoothly and create a great experience for everyone, we’re looking for volunteers to join the team on-site during the event. This page has more information about the different ways you can help.

Volunteering at PyCon Greece is, above all, a way to be part of the community. You’re giving your time without compensation, but in return you get the chance to meet new people, work with others, learn new things, and of course experience the conference from a different perspective.

You don’t need to commit to the entire conference. You can volunteer for a few hours or for as much time as your schedule allows. Every bit of help makes a difference, and we truly appreciate it!

And of course, there will be a few small gifts as a way of saying “thank you” for your time and help.

A few things to keep in mind

  • Volunteering is an on-site activity and requires you to be physically present at the conference venue.
  • While we do our best to keep the conference affordable, we’re unable to cover travel or accommodation expenses for volunteers.
  • You can volunteer for as much or as little as you’d like — even if you already have a conference ticket. Every contribution is important and very welcome.
  • Keep in mind that depending on your role and shift, you may miss some talks you would otherwise like to attend.

What does volunteering at PyCon Greece look like?

As a member of the PyCon Greece volunteer team, you’ll be one of the faces of the conference. Your main role is to help make sure that everyone attending has a great experience.

We’re looking for volunteers who are friendly, helpful, and willing to work together to make sure everyone — including the volunteers themselves! — feels welcome and comfortable.

There are several different roles, described below, but we all work as one team. For example, you might be a Session Chair and someone may ask you where the quiet room is. We’ll expect you to either help them out or point them towards the right person.

Here are some of the ways you can volunteer your time:

Registration Desk

A people-focused role that requires you to be at the registration desk and help with:

  • Handing out conference badges
  • Checking student IDs
  • Answering general questions
  • Registration volunteers will not be able to attend talks during their shift.

T-shirt Distribution

  • Handing out conference T-shirts to attendees
  • Requires standing and some light lifting/carrying
  • This role is also located at the registration area, so you won’t be able to attend talks while working your shift.

Room Manager

The Room Manager helps make sure everything runs smoothly in each conference room. This includes:

  • Making sure everyone is seated before a talk starts and that the room does not become overcrowded
  • Checking that the speaker and Session Chair are present in the room 5 minutes before the talk starts
  • Communicating with the AV team
  • Keeping an eye out for any potential Code of Conduct violations and contacting the appropriate team
  • You may not be able to attend talks while working in this role.

Session Chair

The Session Chair introduces speakers and helps keep the session running smoothly. This includes:

  • Helping speakers set up their equipment
  • Introducing speakers to the audience
  • Giving speakers time reminders
  • Keeping the session on schedule
  • Coordinating questions and helping with microphones, or reading questions from online attendees

Setup / Teradown

  • Putting up signs around the venue (toilets, quiet room, childcare area, etc.)
  • Cleaning up and helping organize the venue at the end of the conference
  • Requires moving and carrying items, some of which may be heavy

Entrance / Badge Check

  • Checking that attendees are visibly wearing their badges
  • Directing anyone without a badge (other than event staff, such as AV or catering) to the registration desk
  • Reporting anyone who refuses to comply with the badge requirements

Ad-hoc Activities

There are always a few unexpected things that come up during a conference. You may be asked to:

  • Check rooms and make sure they have the materials they need
  • Help out at registration, with T-shirts, or in the conference rooms
  • Move chairs, tables, or display boards
  • Generally help out wherever the conference team needs an extra hand
